The Korea Volleyball Association appointed Ramirez from Brazil as its new head coach to lead the Korean men's volleyball team until 2026 in March. Ramirez also left a strong impression on Korean volleyball fans last year. Ramirez was the then-manager of the Pakistani team, which caused an unexpected 3-0 victory over Korea at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Pakistan beat Korea at the Asian Games to finish fifth in the final standings, becoming the hero of the turmoil. On the other hand, it remains a huge shock to the Korean men's volleyball team that was completely defeated by the team, which was considered weak.

Coach Ramirez, who arrived in Korea via Incheon International Airport on the 23rd, attended the "new coach press conference for the Korean national volleyball team" held at the Olympic Parktel in Bangi-dong, Seoul on the 25th and expressed his feelings about taking over the Korean national team and his future determination.

"I have been keeping an eye on the Korean team for about three years as the coach of the opposing team. Now I am honored to be the coach of the Korean national team," Ramirez said. "I am well aware of the long history of Korean volleyball. Men's volleyball is also being replaced by generations, and I think I will be able to perform well on the Asian stage like women's volleyball," he explained.

The men's volleyball team will be convened on May 1, so they have not met the players in person yet. However, their first goal is to perform well at the AVC (Asian Volleyball Federation) Challenge Cup to be held in Bahrain in early June, their first competition since the convocation.

He knows very well what kind of team it is because he has been observing the Korean national team as an "enemy" player. "Korea is a difficult team to play against, and its players are picky because they have good skills. As a coach of the opposing team, however, I tried to identify weaknesses by watching how the setter operates. In modern volleyball, it is important to use middle blockers, but the Korean national team did not use them much at the time. I knew that Korea was struggling even with high ball games, so I focused on this part. On the other hand, Korean players have strong serve. A strong serve is highly likely to lead to victory. I know my weaknesses and strengths, so I have high expectations to overcome them through teamwork and display my strengths," Ramirez said.

He also stressed the middle blocker position, which he pointed out as his first weakness. "The challenge is to raise the level of middle blockers a little bit. I think we need to give a lot of experience to young middle blockers who can be used on the world stage to nurture them. Asian teams are generally lacking in physical and physical conditions, but we need to train and weight to reach a high level," Ramirez said in a statement. In the latest national team, a total of four players have been selected for the middle blocker position: Kim Min-jae (Korean Air), Kim Joon-woo (Samsung Fire Insurance), Choi Jun-hyuk (Inha University) and Lee Sang-hyun (Uri Card).

Choi Joon-hyuk, who is still a member of the college league, and Lee Woo-jin, an outside heater at the Italian first division Belo Valimonza, stand out in the upcoming national team entry. The national team sees them as the axis of generational change.

Coach Ramirez also said, "I watched them play through the video. Choi has a very good footwork and I am satisfied with his height of 2m5. He selected the players based on his future potential, and Lee Woo-jin also asked his close Italian coaches about their current skills. Although the 12 players have not joined the official squad yet, I have heard that they have practiced hard and have a very high level, so I wanted to see them in person. I selected them because I thought I would be able to adapt well to the national team as well."

Men's volleyball, ranked 28th in the world, has not been able to play in international competitions. Last year, the team was shocked by the "no medal" after losing the Asian Games in Pakistan after ranking third in the AVC Challenge Cup and fifth in the Asian Championships. Starting with this year's AVC Challenge Cup, the team's long-term goals are to enter the medal table at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in 2026 and the LA Olympics in 2028. Coach Ramirez is in charge of vitalizing the global status of Korean men's volleyball as much as possible.
